All in all this turned out to be a pleasant year for my running. Covid restrictions are feeling like a distant memory and the running events are back in full swing.
My fitness and motivation have taken a pretty big hit though. I’m still getting anxious thoughts and fairly frequent palpitations which make it hard to get into a regular running schedule.
I’ve spoken to doctors about all this and everything looks good health-wise, so I’ve made a big effort to try and get my mood to a better place and just start enjoy my running again.
The Twin Lakes and MK Marathon were a bit of a slog to train for in the winter, but it felt good to get back out again after such a long time stuck at home. I was surprised how quickly things felt normal to turn up to crowded, busy events again.
Things definitely picked up again in late summer and I had a great time taking part in the Dunstable Downs Marathon and Tring Ultra. I felt as though I ran them pretty well considering the lack of training and occasional pangs of anxiety that still come up.
I closed out the year once again with the Dirt Half – it was really nice to take on another half marathon with Lorna, and she smashed it again!
I’m hoping I can keep the momentum up in 2023, it would be great to get back to my regular mileage again.
